Generative AI Masterclass

Professor Mike Sharples is Emeritus Professor of Educational Technology in the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University, UK. His research involves human-centred design of new technologies and environments for learning. He inaugurated the mLearn conference series and was Founding President of the International Association for Mobile Learning. He is Associate Editor in Chief of IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies. He established the Innovating Pedagogy report series and is author of over 300 books and papers in the areas of educational technology, science education, human-centred design of personal technologies, artificial intelligence and cognitive science.

Dr. Hazel Farrell

Hazel Farrell the lead for the N-TUTORR GenAI:N3 project and is also the South East Technological University (SETU) Academic Lead for Gen AI. She has been actively involved in technology-enhanced learning for many years with student engagement initiatives for creative disciplines at the forefront of her work. Coming from a background in analytical musicology, she is also the programme leader for the BA (Hons) Music degree in SETU. She is a founder member of CASE (Creative Approaches to Student Engagement) and through her work with this group, she became an early adopter of Gen AI in the classroom. She serves on the Steering Committee for Gen AI in the university and has developed resources and facilitated training to support the university community in the challenges and opportunities of this technology. She has presented extensively both nationally and internationally on a variety of Gen AI related topics and has several publications in this space.

Dr. Tom Farrelly

Dr Tom Farrelly is an Academic Developer with the N-TUTORR team at MTU. With a background in sociology, he has a keen interest in exploring the societal implications of technology use. While he advocates for the integration of technology in education, he identifies as a “critical technophile,” continually questioning the gap between hype and reality. In collaboration with Nick Baker, Dr Farrelly has developed a framework aimed at helping teaching staff enhance their Generative AI literacy, particularly in relation to diverse student groups.
